We Should All Have Goals!

March 24, 2018

Goals!!

We should all have goals.
Starting your fitness journey without a goal would be similar to start running a race without knowing how far you will have to run beforehand.
It’s not impossible but it will make everything  harder than necessary.

*Write down your goal.

Writing it down will make it easier to visualize.
You want to make the goal hard enough to challenge yourself but not so hard that you are likely to fail.

* Give yourself a end date.

With a end date you can plan ahead and do what’s necessary to get over the finish line in time.

*Set up one or two short-term goals.

A short term goal is just another way to check that you’re on the right track.
Example:
Long-term goal: To do 100 unassisted pull-ups before Labor Day 2018.

First short-term: 20 assisted pull-ups.
Time: 3 weeks in.

Second short-term: 50 unassisted pull-ups. Time: Mid June.

*Let someone know.

Another person can give you support and cheer you on thru out your journey.
Maybe they’ll even decide to join you.
This short check list will help you stay on track and see how you are doing thru out your journey towards the optimal You!
Be honest with yourself and understand a strong body isn’t built in a few months.
It’s a long journey so pace yourself.
If you need someone that can guide, hold you accountable for your promises to yourself and give you an extra nudge over that hill I always recommend to find a fitness professional near you!
To infinity and beyond.
You can do this!!

Beat Winter Blues With Exercise

3 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

geo

By Geo Chang, personal trainer

Don’t let the winter blues beat your workout motivation to the ground. Stay Motivated through the cold weather with these tips.
The winter months typically start out fun and full of cheer.  But then as the social gatherings subside , somewhere between a freezing January and a wet March, high spirits can turn into the winter blues for even the most motivated among us.
Although it may be tempting to find the nearest pillow, blanket, and dark cave so you can hibernate until spring, exercise is a much better strategy for relief from the seasonal doldrums. When you’re just not feeling great, however, even your workout motivation level can fall to zero.
Here are some tips to change your mood around and get back in shape!

1.  Change Your Environment.

One of the dreariest things about winter is how bland everything can look-gray streets and gray skies don’t make the prettiest picture, after all. To overcome this, sometimes all you need to do is change the environment you can control!
This could be your workout space, the music you are listening to, or even your workout clothes. If it’s dreary outside, you have to do everything you can to add some color to your world. Buy some new leggings you love, or sign up for a guest pass at a brand-new gym for a week.

2. Get Outdoors

Gazing at the cold, dreary weather from your bedroom window may be making things tougher. Don’t sit there and mope about the weather; go out and be a part of it! Spending time outdoors, even if it’s just a brisk walk, can provide a dose of mood-boosting vitamin D

3. Get A Workout Partner

It’s much harder to crawl into your winter-blues cave when you have a friend waiting for you at the gym. A workout buddy will help hold you accountable so you will feel more motivated to train. Set short-term weekly goals for each other, and be sure to make your workouts fun.

Bonus Fitness Tip:  Don’t Cheat Yourself!

There are always ways around us to get in some free activity.  Whether it’s biking instead of taking taxis and subways, or taking the stairs instead of taking the escalators.  Always choose the path less traveled.  Always make that split second decision to take the slightly more challenging route.  All these small decisions that seem insignificant, eventually add up in the grand scheme of things.  You’ll be glad you did!
Cheers!

New Year’s Resolution Fitness Tips

January 20, 2018

Tips to Keep New Years Resolution Going Strong

geoBy Geo Chang, personal trainer

Whatever the resolution is, you need to have a game plan to be successful. It’s no secret that most New Year’s resolutions fail, and often this failure can be attributed to not having a solid game plan.  Here are tips you can put to use to make sure this is year you succeed!
1 Set Deadlines

A huge problem is that there aren’t deadlines. A goal is only so good as you reaching it, but if there’s no deadline in place, what’s pushing you forward?
Set a specific date that will keep you accountable. Make it realistic, but at the same time firm!

2 Don’t spread yourself thin

Another issue people face with their resolutions is they spread themselves too thin and try to accomplish a little more than they can handle.  Want to improve your fitness level? Great. Want to improve your career? That’s awesome.  Just don’t try and do it all at once.

You don’t want to overload yourself and become overwhelmed and get nowhere.  Focus on one task at a time, and move on to the next!

3 Tell someone!

Rather than keeping your resolution a secret, open up and tell a friend about it.  Not only will this person support your efforts, but hold you accountable too!

4 Visualize

Imagine yourself at your end-state. What you will look like , how you will feel, the joy that thing brings you.  Visualize how others will act around you, how it will impact your day to day life.

having this vivid mental picture in the back of your mind can be very powerful and can motivate you when you’d rather skip the gym session or dig into those donuts.

5 Get Help
If your resolution puts you out of your comfort zone or involves doing something you’re not entirely sure how to do (for example, lifting weights correctly), be sure to see the professional you need before beginning.

Far too many people choose to go at it alone and start off on the wrong foot. This causes them to waste months and months of time, or even worse, getting hurt!

It may cost a bit of money upfront, but it’s money well spent if you’re serious about reaching your goal.

Reach your goals! Contact Geo today!

Bonus Fitness Tip:
All Temperature Workouts
Training and working out is a constant challenge. When it is as cold as it has been out lately, it’s an even bigger challenge to stay motivated and go to the gym. A trainer, or even workout partner can keep you motivated and accountable to make that session , regardless of what the thermometer says.  Have the attitude that working out is like brushing your teeth.  Whether it’s 90 degrees out, or 10 degrees out,  it has got to get done!

Dress accordingly and refresh those workout playlists!

Cheers!

Emotions and Fitness Success

Topic: Your Emotions
by Bryan Mirabella, personal trainer

I would like to focus your attention upon the topic of your emotions.
As Dr. Bruce Lipton author of the ground breaking book “The Biology Of Belief” would say “Your body is your subconscious mind” and I’ll add that our Emotions are our Energetic Nerves.Let me elaborate upon this statement so that you may better understand how this understanding can be used for your benefit.

Each and every one of us are made up of energy. We pulse or resonate at a particular frequency, which in turn dictates our experiences. Each of you emit continuous vibrational waves of energy. By now many of you have become familiar with the concept of “the Law of Attraction.”  You can only experience what you resonate with. But how do you know what you are pulsing out?

Your emotions [are] your indicators to let you know what vibrational “channel” you have tuned into. However, most humans allow their thoughts to be determined by their circumstances, as they continually react to the experiences around them.

You see, if you were to place your hand in a fire, you have nerves in your hands to let you know that it hurts. You would quickly remove your hand. Not once would you leave your hand in the fire, and then discuss with those around you how badly your hand hurts. Nor would you keep your hand in the fire to justify the pain you are feeling. Yet we watch as so many humans do exactly this with negative emotions such as fear, emotional pain, sadness, anxiousness, a bad relationship, and many other negative feelings.

Your emotions were simply meant to act as energetic nerves to help you quickly decipher and move away from what causes you emotional pain, just as your physical nerves are meant to quickly alert of you physical pain so that you can remove the cause immediately. You intended to use your emotions to help you gain clarity upon what you like and what you do not.

When you use your emotions as energetic sensors or nerves to simply let you know that you are experiencing something positive or negative you would spend so much less time experiencing the circumstances you consider to be so challenging, so negative or so painful.

Remember, what you focus upon will always expand.  So when you use your emotions as a compass or a rutter on a ship, you may then steer away from what pains you and towards what you love, what you enjoy, what makes you feel good. This is why we say, your emotions are simply your energetic nerves. Pull away from all that pains you and focus your attention upon all that you love.

I hope that I have served you in some way.  Peace and Love.

Socialize for New Year’s Fitness Motivation

Get Motivated in the New Year by Getting Social

It’s that time of year again. The holidays will soon be coming to a close and those New Year’s resolutions are going to start kicking in. If you’re like most people, your resolutions include attaining new fitness goals. Whether you want to lose weight or hit that new personal best, it’s time to get motivated.

One of the easiest ways to get motivated, and stay motivated, is by making your resolution a social one. Humans are social animals. It’s infinitely more difficult to do anything alone. The more we interact with others, the more likely we are to mimic their actions, that’s why surrounding yourself with like-minded people is important in rocking the resolution.

You should seriously consider Queens personal training. Not only are personal trainers some of the most energetic and knowledgeable fitness gurus on the planet, but they are there to help you reach your goals. Your personal trainer will tailor workouts to your skill level, and help you set realistic goals.

It’s also been proven that paying for something makes you more invested in it. You wouldn’t buy a football ticket and then not show up for the game. Having a vested interest in your fitness journey will hold you accountable and likely keep you headed to the gym.

You should also consider getting a fitness tracker. There are all kinds of online communities where you can share your progression and get motivation. Seeing how many steps you take in a day, will make you want to move more. If you find you’re doing less than 10,000 steps, you might want to rethink binge-watching that show. Take your dog for a walk, or better yet, call your trainer to set up another session.

The main thing is to let your goal be known. You might be a private person, but be realistic. How many resolutions have you kept secret and actually stuck to? Get out there, shout your resolution, join a group, get a Queens personal trainer, and get moving! The only thing you have to lose is the holiday gut you’ve been growing for the past two months.
