Queens Personal Trainer Finder

Help Me Find a Personal Trainer in Queens Quick!

Finding the perfect personal trainer to work with in Queens can be a bit of a laborious task. This can be frustrating when you’re in a hurry to get started with one. So how can you go about finding a trainer fast? Well we’ve put together some tips and ideas that are meant to make the process smooth and quick.

A Guide is Your Friend

One of the best tools to use in the search process is a personal trainer guide of your particular neighborhood – like the one you are on now, NeighborhoodTrainers. This guide should list all the trainers, their contact information, website details (if applicable), and whether they offer at-home sessions or if you need to go meet them somewhere.

These guides are a great way to narrow down the field of potential trainers, and help you find the right one that much faster.

Word of Mouth – Your New Best Friend

Here’s a case where word of mouth can really help out. Talk to your friends, co-workers, and gym buddies and ask if they use Queens personal training services. If they do you can get the contact information from them.

Before you hire personal trainers in Queens, be sure to meet with them in person so you can ask questions and get a sense of the chemistry. You’ll be working together as you train so you want to be sure that the trainer has an approach that works for you.

If you don’t care for their approach, it’s time to move on to the next trainer. You want to feel motivated to work out, so that means you have to enjoy spending time with your trainer, or at least respond to their methods in a positive way. There is no shortage of Queens personal trainers, so don’t feel trapped.

Accessible NYC Personal Trainers

NYC Personal Trainers at your Fingertips!

Some of the hardest workers in NYC are personal trainers. These individuals work with people on the most private and personal level, providing them with a customized training program, and often a nutrition plan. They are always in demand, which is no wonder since they can literally transform the way you look and feel.

If you’ve been looking to hire one of these hard-working individuals, but don’t know where to look, not to worry because we are here to help!

All too often people assume if they aren’t a member at a gym, then there is no way to access a personal trainer. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Here in New York City you will be able to access trainers all over the place. Some have their own training studios, while others are able to come to your home or workplace in order to train you. It’s all about making your life as convenient as possible.

Why wait?

Find a Trainer in a Hurry  If you’re looking to get on board with NYC personal training in a hurry, you’ll want to access a personal training directory like NeighborhoodTrainer.com. These guides will give you plenty of contact information so you can start working through the options to find the perfect NYC personal trainers.

Another way to go about it is to ask around at local gyms. Most gyms offer personal trainers in NYC, but keep in mind there is a good chance the sessions will need to be performed at the gym. This also means you’ll be working on the gym’s schedule. If this is the case look for gyms that are open seven days a week, 24 hours a day so that it will work for you no matter what your schedule may be.

Fall Fitness Motivation

September 22, 2016

The days of summer have slipped away. Fewer beach days and bbq’s, and less days to wear our beloved swimsuits. Kids are back to school, and our workload seems to increase by the day. Fitness and healthy lifestyles are slowly slipping on the priority list.  You don’t have to let cooler weather and a busy lifestyle ruin the body you’ve worked so hard into attaining all summer. Here are a few tips to keep you motivated this fall season:
1. Use the buddy system.   You’ll be more likely to hit the gym if you’re meeting a friend there. They’ll help keep you accountable.
2. Set a goal.   There’s nothing more motivating that that first 5k looming in bold letters on the calendar.  Register early and commit to an exerise program that will get you in shape by race day. The goal doesn’t even have to be an organized race.  Maybe its a mission to fit into those old pair of jeans buried in your closet by Thanksgiving. Whatever it is, define it, write it down, and revisit it daily.
3. Schedule a regular workout time.  Some of the most committed exercisers do it everyday before the sun comes up or late at night when the kids are in bed. Sit down with your schedule and try to build in an hour each day to be good to your body.
4. Think fun and variety.  Whether it’s a toning and sculpting class that changes choreography every week or a trail run that changes scenery every season, design your exercise routine around a variety of exercise methods.  Listen to your inner voice when choosing the best workout for you, such as a hip hop class that satisfies your passion for dance, etc.
5. Reward yourself.  After each exercise session, take a few minutes to savor the good feelings that exercise gives you. This type of internal reward can help you make long term commitment to regular exercise. External rewards can help too, such as new pair of running shoes or new music whenever you reach a longer range goal.
Summer may have come to an end, but the desire to stay fit and healthy does not!
Happy Fitness!

Geo’s FITNESS TIP OF THE MONTH

Football Season + Staying Fit!
Pizza and chicken wings may be standard fare during football season, but dig into the fatty foods now, and you’ll need more than a few extra workouts to burn off those extra calories later.  Ditch the deep fried buffalo wings and go bite size morsels of lean shredded baked buffalo chicken breasts. Combine with hot sauce and green onions. Another idea are grilled chicken / veggie skewers  as well as mixed nuts instead of potato chips.  They are loaded with protein instead of fat and carbs.  Trust me, your body will thank you come January!  Go Giants!

Strength Training and Toning Timeline

How Long Will it Take Me to Get Started With Strength Training and Toning?

By Lisa Snow, personal trainer

Many of my clients have never worked with a personal trainer before.  Often in their 40s, 50s, and beyond, some haven’t worked out since high school, while others have years of experience taking group cardio classes, but haven’t worked with a trainer 1-1.  Lifting weights is a brand new skill, and the gym looks like an intimidating place.    It doesn’t have to be this way!   A personal trainer can help you learn which exercises to do, how to use equipment, and most importantly, help you feel at home in the gym.
When I started personal training school, I had never done weights.  Yes, I’d been in a variety of sports-mainly gymnastics and trampoline-but didn’t know where to start with dumbbells, kettlebells, or weight machines.  I was in class with people who’d been college athletes and been using weights their whole lives.  It was intimidating to say the least!  But my classmates and instructors helped me progress one day at a time, and at the end of 12 months, I felt confident in my form and able to teach others!  Almost a decade later, I’ve helped hundreds of people go on the same journey from nervous and unsure to empowered.
The #1 obstacle for many brand-new clients is being mean to themselves.  They berate themselves for not being the perfect weight, not knowing how to use every piece of equipment, or not having started eating right and exercising sooner.  What if you could be kind to yourself today?  If you knew that fitness professionals took at least a full year to learn how to do the exercises, would you sign up for 2 months with a trainer and then be mad at yourself for not being able to keep it up on your own?
Whether you’re signing up for a personal trainer, Pilates teacher, or yoga class, give yourself the gift of patience.  Plan to spend a minimum of 6 months if not a year to gain skills and build confidence.  If you want to try one or two trainers for a month each to find the right match for you, great.  Just know that once you do find ideal coach, they can’t get you there in a month.  Give yourself credit for getting started, and show the same compassion for yourself that you give your friends and family.

More Business Reasons to Workout with Another Personal Trainer

September 13, 2016

Previously I wrote about two business reasons that personal trainers should exercise together.  They pertained to practicing delivering your message to clients.  But, away from the actual training sessions lots of other items maintain their importance when running a business.  Personal trainers are entrepreneurs who struck out on their own with a professional goal.  Unfortunately, when you are a “one-man-show” you have no one to turn to when questionable situations arise.

workout with another personal trainer“Problem” clients

Every personal training client is unique.  That is indisputable.  While you may be able to put clients into some basic buckets; athletes, seniors, general fitness.  Everyone has their own characteristics, preferences, injuries, and needs.  Even the most experienced personal trainer hasn’t seen it all yet.  There is always something new around the corner.  A healthy client who suddenly develops a condition or injury, another has a new extreme sports goal you haven’t trained anyone for yet.  These are times when you want to have a conversation with a colleague.  If you are unfamiliar with a condition or injury, you need to seek out others who may have experience they can share with you.  You want to be able to deliver for the client, so they don’t leave you for another trainer.  Conversations that can’t wait to schedule a sit down over coffee.  Which, given the nature of the business, setting up a meeting is hard to do.  However, you know that trainer is going to be working out on a given day and everyone can use a buddy.

Billing issues

Hey, they happen.  Even with the clients who are always on-time with their payments for their next package of sessions.  You never even have to say anything and the payment as in hand on time.  What if they forget and you get two to three sessions into the next package?  You wonder how to broach the situation and bring up the question.  It’s never been a problem before.  At this point, it’s nice to ask another Manhattan personal trainer if and how they have handled similar situations.  It’s important to have a strategy to remind and prod clients when necessary.  Plus, if it is practiced in its approach, your confident when delivering the message.  When you are confident, your clients are more inclined to hear your message and get it taken care of quickly.

Promotions

It’s hard to know what kind of promotion works best and when to use them.  Sure, you can schedule promotions around holidays and school breaks like the bog box retailers, but you also have to know what works best.  Speaking with other personal trainers about promotions they have used to either attract new clients or to incentivize existing clients to buy bigger or enhanced packages is an important part of growing your business. This is the perfect kind of conversation to have during a workout.  The workout gets the creative juices flowing and the idea of making more money just gets you excited.  You’ll be maxing out your weights and revenue in no time!

Trends

Fitness is an ever-changing industry.  While there are many products that are trying to take the place of personal trainers, which is not completely possible, many of these products can enhance your business.  Talking to others about things they are planning for their personal training business can help you stay on top of new trends in the fitness industry.  Whether the trends have to do with wearables, online training, or small group training it is always good to seek out the opinions of others who are also trying to build successful personal training businesses.

Personal Trainers Should Workout with Other Personal Trainers for Business Reasons

September 9, 2016

If as a personal trainer you didn’t believe that an individual’s gym time is more effective when they train with a personal trainer, then you would be in the wrong profession.  But, I am sure you are a believer.  Thus, it isn’t much of a stretch of the imagination to figure that trainers who work out with other trainers would find it of great benefit to their own fitness goals.  What may also be of benefit, but less obvious are the business benefits of two fitness professionals feeding off each other’s tactics and experience.

090916-work-out-with-trainersChances are that when you work out with another trainer, you will want to be at your best.   Yes, you want to have an intense training session, but it is also important to show your level of focus to an exercise.  Showing how you focus on the movement and the technique.  You will also want to put your best foot forward when you are trying to get your training partner to push past a barrier for that extra repetition or weight limit.  The last thing you want to do is miss an opportunity to help one of your peers.  It’s during these sessions that you will be using the same techniques that you employ on your paying clients.  You will get the opportunity to see how another trainer reacts to them.  You will get practice saying them, which helps you build conviction in your words as you become more familiar with the dialogue.

Conversely, you may decide that you didn’t like the way you did something and thus opt to refine the way you deliver your message to a paying client.  Here again is where the process of continuously practicing what you want to say can lead to an improved client experience.  Improving the client experience is an ongoing process and a key to a successful personal training business.  New York City personal trainers have ample opportunity to workout together, as there are independent training gyms throughout the city where trainers use the gym in between client sessions.

On the other side, your training partner and fellow personal trainer will be showing off their best, or worst, and providing you with an inside view into some of their practices.  These are opportunities to how others conduct yourselves.  You may find some takeaways that you can incorporate into your own programs and dialogue.  On the flip side, you may be abhorred by what you see and be happy that you handle your own personal training business in a much better manner.

At the end, if you really want to improve your personal training business and have thick skin, ask for some feedback on some of the things you did.  Feedback is a priceless tool for any business.  In my years as part of the New York City fitness community, I have yet to find a NYC personal trainer who refused to provide feedback to a colleague.   Just ask!  If you are looking to connect with other personal trainers in the area, search the trainers on NeighborhoodTrainers. If you are looking to connect with new clients then add your trainer profile to the NeighborhoodTrainer community.
