      I was paired with Luis during a trial training package I purchased at a major fitness chain. Having been a member for quite some time, I was awaiting the hard sell to buy more sessions as well as the usual spiel that comes along with. Much to my surprise, Luis was very laid back, in no way pushy, and extremely knowledgeable in the area of Exercise Science and nutrition. I have also, sadly, had many experiences in the past where male trainers have made questionable or inappropriate comments that have made me uncomfortable. Luis - on the other hand - was very serious and respectful; making me feel comfortable immediately and as the sessions continued. He was very realistic with me about my stats during my initial assessment and offered me a sobering wake up call. I, myself was in Personal Training school at the time and was under the impression that I knew quite well what I was doing. However, when Luis watched how I executed basic movements, he caught many issues in my form and areas of weakness that had never been acknowledged by any trainer before him. At first, I was a little frustrated that he only wanted me to do step ups as opposed to weight bearing squats or something a little more advanced; in my mind I thought he had to be crazy since I had trained so many times before! But I soon recognized that Luis was an expert once I realized that he was following the proper procedure for progression of exercises and wanted me to focus on proper form before bringing up the difficulty level. Had he not followed that guideline and given me more progressed exercises, it could have potentially harmed or injured me; He saved me from a lot of unnecessary potential physical problems. I didn't need the hard sell after my first package was up because the proof was in his methods. I purchased an additional package and continued to work with him until I was no longer able to afford it. I had hoped he would have his own practice by that point so that 100% of my money would go to him and not a small percentage after the gym gets their initial cut. Unfortunately, it did not work out that way, but I have always valued my experience with him. Now that Luis has gone independent, I look forward to working with him again! I may be a trainer myself, but there's nothing like motivation from another person keeping you in check! Even hairdressers need a hairdresser, am I right?!
