With so many people setting New Years resolutions about fitness, every sports store will try to convince you that you need to own a treadmill, a bowflex, or another expensive piece of gym equipment to get in shape. But many of the most effective pieces of fitness equipment cost under $25 and are small enough to work in an NYC apartment — tubing, mini-bands, jump ropes, neoprene dumbbells, etc. Now you can add one more outstanding tool to the list. Gliding Discs allow you to transform old-school exercises like squats, lunges, side lunges, planks, and pushups, into beautiful, graceful, fluid movements. In a traditional lunge, you have to pick up one foot, step forward, drop into the lunge, then step back to where you started. In a Gliding lunge, you can simply slide your front foot forward, then slide back to the starting point – your foot never leaves the floor. Gliding Discs look like paper plates, but they’re made of hard plastic and fabric and are much more durable. How can something so simplistic be so useful?
Gliding Disc exercises ideal for anyone who needs to avoid impact during some workouts. Runnersmay want one workout a week where they’re not pounding on their joints. Athletes and regular people in post-rehab following a knee or hip injury may need to rebuild hip and leg strength with low-impact or no-impact exercises. Gliding Discs also help post-rehab clients regain shoulder mobility, and strengthen their core. Older adults with arthritis or other kinds of joint pain who thought they could only exercise for 10-15 min before the pain starts may find they can workout for half an hour or an hour pain-free with Gliding Discs, because there’s so much less stress on their joints.
Healthy folks who’re trying to lose the last 10 lbs are usually OK with impact from running or jumping rope. But people with 50+ lbs to lose shouldn’t be doing high impact exercises!! Safer alternatives include using an elliptical machine, taking a yoga class, swiming, or using Gliding Discs.
Whether you use Gliding Discs at one of NYC’s independent gyms or buy a pair for home use, they can help you reach your 2014 fitness goals!
