Twenty Minutes is all You Need- Mentally and Physically

March 3, 2014

“I don’t have time.”  That is probably the biggest excuse I here, as to why people don’t exercise.  Well, the truth is that we make time for the things we feel are important.  We also maximize that time when we do things we enjoy.  For those who know the importance of exercise, but,are struggling with finding time, here is a simple truth.  Twenty minutes is all it takes to make a difference.   To make the most out of your time at the gym, try supersets or a variation of it.

Supersetting is the idea of doing multiple sets together without a rest in between.  This could mean working opposing muscle groups or the same muscles from a different angle.  Instantly, you can see how this will save you time.  More sets, less rest.  It’s like watching your favorite sitcom and skipping the commercials.  A half-hour program only takes 22 minutes to watch.

So what else does supersetting help with besides saving time?  It raises your heart rate.  More exertion, less rest.  The workout itself is more intense. The time is used more wisely.   Again, think constantly being in motion versus sitting on a couch.

This could also be a day to do cardiovascular work.  Twenty minutes of sprints or intervals.  Or just simply go at a slightly faster pace for 20 minutes. The added intensity will make up for a few less minutes.

Finally, when it is all said and done, you will be glad you exercised. That is a huge edge mentally.  Knowing you got it done and you don’t have to try to make it up in your next workout is a major positive.  If you aren’t sure how to structure a short workout using supersets,  consider enlisting the services of a personal trainer to create and teach you a program.
